Welcome to Smartermatch.ai (“Smartermatch”, “we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use our website and services, including our browser extension (“Smartermatch IG Helper”).

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Our website at smartermatch.ai (the “Site”).
  • Our services and dashboard (the “Services”).
  • Our Chrome extension “Smartermatch IG Helper” (the “Extension”).

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Account & Contact Data

If you create an account or contact support, we may collect information such as your name, email address, and account-related communications.

3.2 Website Usage & Device Data

When you use the Site, we may collect typical web analytics and log data such as IP address, browser type, device identifiers, operating system, referring URLs, and pages viewed.

3.3 Cookies & Similar Technologies (Site)

We use cookies or similar technologies on the Site for functionality, analytics, and marketing measurement. This may include tools such as PostHog and the Meta Pixel to understand Site usage and measure marketing performance.

Important: These website analytics/marketing tools run on the Site (smartermatch.ai) and are not embedded in the Extension. The Extension is not designed to track your general web browsing activity.

You may be able to control cookies through your browser settings. Some Site features may not function properly if cookies are disabled.

3.4 Instagram-Related Data (Only If You Connect)

If you choose to connect Instagram-related features, we may process Instagram identifiers such as your Instagram username and Instagram numeric ID to link your identity to your Smartermatch account.

3.5 Extension Data (Only If You Use the Extension)

Affirmative consent: The Extension does not transmit follower data to Smartermatch until you take an explicit action in the Extension UI (e.g., clicking “Connect Profile”).

  • Social identifiers: Instagram username and Instagram numeric ID (to link the correct account to your Smartermatch dashboard).
  • Followers-only network metadata: When you explicitly initiate syncing, the Extension synchronizes follower usernames and numeric IDs to your private Smartermatch dashboard.
  • Local session checks (login verification): The Extension checks locally for the presence of Instagram session cookies (e.g., sessionid) to detect login/logout state and ensure syncing only runs when you are logged in. Identity verification (confirming which account is active) is performed by querying Instagram’s internal web APIs via your authenticated browser session. The Extension does not store cookie values long-term and does not transmit cookie values or other authentication tokens to Smartermatch servers.
  • Sync preferences & operational state: The Extension may store local preferences (e.g., throughput setting) and sync status/progress to safely resume or stop syncing.

What we do not collect via the Extension: We do not access your Instagram password. We do not collect private messages/DM content. We do not collect general browsing history. The Extension does not include third-party tracking pixels (including the Meta Pixel) or website analytics tools like PostHog.

4. How We Use Information

We use information to:

Chrome Web Store compliance: We use and protect Extension data in accordance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Services.
  • Create and manage user accounts and provide customer support.
  • Enable user-requested Instagram identity linking and followers synchronization features.
  • Provide server-side efficiency features (e.g., “virtual sync”) to reduce unnecessary browser activity.
  • Monitor performance, troubleshoot, and improve reliability and user experience.
  • Operate Site analytics and measure marketing performance (Site only).
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

5. Disclosure of Information

We may share information in limited circumstances, such as:

  • Service providers: Vendors that help us run the Services (e.g., hosting and infrastructure providers such as Vercel and Neon, and analytics on the Site), under confidentiality and data processing terms as appropriate. Our primary infrastructure for the Services is hosted in the United States.
  • Legal requirements: If required by law, regulation, or valid legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to appropriate protections.

International transfers: Because we use U.S.-based infrastructure providers, your information may be processed or stored in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

Data use limitations:

  • We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
  • We do not use or transfer your data for purposes unrelated to the core synchronization and relationship management features of Smartermatch.
  • We do not use your data to determine creditworthiness, eligibility for lending, or for any financial profiling purposes.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

  • Account data: retained as long as needed to provide the Services and for legitimate business purposes (e.g., security, compliance).
  • Followers metadata: remains associated with your Smartermatch account until you disconnect your Instagram profile within Smartermatch.
  • Uninstalling the Extension: uninstalling stops the Extension from running or syncing. Uninstalling alone does not automatically delete previously synced data from your Smartermatch account.
  • Disconnecting: disconnecting your Instagram profile within Smartermatch removes the Instagram identity link for your account and deletes your personalized network view, sync history, and related connection records associated with your user account from our active systems (subject to reasonable operational needs such as backups and integrity logs, and legal obligations). Global follower-graph records may be retained as part of our pooled network dataset (for example, follower relationships and profile identifiers stored in the underlying graph), even after you disconnect.
  • Account deletion: Users may request full Smartermatch account deletion via account settings. Account deletion deletes your user account and associated user-specific data from our active systems (subject to reasonable operational needs such as backups and integrity logs, and legal obligations). This includes data tied to your account across features, including Discover(extension-based follower syncing/personalized network view) and Growth (Instagram official API connection data such as tokens/connected identity, if applicable). Pooled/global follower-graph records may be retained as part of our underlying network dataset even after your account is deleted.

7. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information. However, no security measures are perfect and no method of transmission can be guaranteed fully secure.

9. Children’s Privacy

Our Services are intended for users who are at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in their jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18.
